
What is the PTE Academic Exam?

PTE Exam Format: A 2-Hour Overview
The test duration is approximately 2 hours. Since August 2021, the shortened format has made the exam less exhausting for test-takers.1. Speaking & Writing (54–67 Minutes)
This is the longest section of the test. It measures your ability to produce spoken and written English in an academic environment.- Key Tasks: Read Aloud, Repeat Sentence, Describe Image, Retell Lecture, Answer Short Question, Summarise Written Text, and Write Essay.
- 2026 Update: New task types like Respond to a Situation and Summarise Group Discussion are being integrated to reflect real-world communication.
2. Reading (29–30 Minutes)
This section assesses your comprehension skills through 15–20 integrated and independent items.- Key Tasks: Fill in the Blanks (Reading & Writing), Multiple Choice (Multiple Answers), Re-order Paragraphs, and Fill in the Blanks (Reading).
3. Listening (30–43 Minutes)
You will listen to audio or video clips and answer questions based on what you hear.- Key Tasks: Summarise Spoken Text, Multiple Choice, Fill in the Blanks, Highlight Correct Summary, Select Missing Word, Highlight Incorrect Words, and Write from Dictation.
Scoring System: Understanding the 10–90 Scale
PTE scores are reported on a scale of 10 to 90. Your Score Report includes:- Overall Score: Based on your performance across the entire test.
